The 1989 Tel Aviv stabbing attack was a stabbing attack on random residents of Tel Aviv, Israel carried out in 1989 by Muhammad Zakut (also spelled Mohamed Zakout), a Palestinian Arab construction worker.

The attack

On 21 March 1989, Zakut, an Arab construction worker employed in Tel Aviv decided, according to Al Arabiya, to take a knife and "stab in the neck the first Israeli his eyes fell on." He murdered two Israelis and severely injured a third in the back of his head and his spinal cord before being caught.[1][2][3]

Zahut received a life sentence for the attack.[4]

Release of Assailant

On 18 October 2011, Zakut (referred to as Muhammad Abdul-Rahman Muhammad Zakut) was released to Gaza as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas.[4]
